Application

The AGV100 Valve is used to meter gaseous fuel to gas turbines or gas engines that require a relatively large volume of gas. This may be due simply to the size of the turbine or engine or may be because the application is using gas of a of a lower heating value that therefore requires a much higher volume of gas.  On Gas Turbines burning standard natural gas this would provide enough fuel to fully load a turbine with Maximum Horsepower of approximately 100,000 bph.

The valve has been designed to provide an optimum interface between a control system and the engine through the integration of various end devices integrated into the valve. Included are pressure transducers and a LVDT to report position. The valve is linear, that is, the metered fuel flow, pressure control or position (depending on the configuration) is proportional to the 4-20 ma fuel demand signal from the Control System.

The AGV100 is a direct acting balanced poppet (voice coil actuated) with nested control loops. The fuel flow is measured in the valve and compared to the fuel requested by the 4-20 ma signal from the customer’s controller. The error signal generated is used to correct the fuel flow. The valve has exceptionally fast response, and can provide outstanding transient performance when used in a generator application. It will also provide superior engine performance in any mechanical drive application.

The voice coil provides not only extremely fast actuation but also very little friction and hysteresis.  This provides stable control of the valve and extends the MTBF of the valve. 

Configuration Options

The AGV100 has been designed to allow the customer the ultimate in control configurability.  Based on the application and requirements the customer can choose to configure the AGV100 with integrated Flow Control, Pressure Control or Position Control.

Flow Control

Flow control is an option that many engine and control system OEM’s would prefer to use for control.  Using flow for control eliminates negative impacts from changing temperature or pressure of the supply gas.  It also provides accurate flow information that would normally require the addition of a external flow meter.

Speed Stability

There are no through-the-wall seals or other internal points of friction that cause speed instability. The magnetic dampening of the voice coil also serves to enhance the stability of the valve.

Low Power

The valve is powered from a 24VDC battery source. The momentary maximum current during a transient is 8 amps with steady state current under 5 amps.

High Dirt Tolerance

The flow-through design minimizes the effects of particulate contamination. Dirt normally found in pipeline applications passes through and does not collect in the valve. An internal 11-micron filter is included to prevent particles from entering the pilot stage. In extreme cases where the gas is wet and/or dirty and the internal filter would need to be changed frequently, provisions have been made for the use of a larger external filter.

Fail-Safe

The main poppet valve is spring-loaded closed. It closes on loss of power, loss of gas pressure, or other internal failure.
